Ian has two new papers from students he mentored during his time in Switzerland. Lucy Novovitch’s MSc thesis is in the African Journal of Ecology, looking at how the community-managed Ipole Wildlife Management Area in Tanzania manages for over 50 species of mammals. Her huge field effort involved deploying hundreds of camera traps across the savanna.

Célestin Luisier’s MSc thesis examined how the range size of the elusive and enigmatic Wallcreeper is projected to change under various climate scenerios. An international expert on the species, he developed new field methods to effectively monitor the species across its range, producing the first rigorous abundance estimates in Switzerland. His paper is in Ecology & Evolution.
