My favorite part of academia is working with students, and I consider teaching and mentoring to be equally as important as research. Indeed, I find the three processes to be mutually reinforcing for inspiring creativity, improving the communication of ideas, and maintaining an open mind. At a minimum, I believe that kindness, respect, and empathy should lie at the core of all human interactions, and I strive to maintain a caring and inclusive working environment for my students. More details on my mentoring philosophy are articulated in the attached document that I distribute to my thesis students each year.
